Sweet Alyssum Farm
About Us
Sweet Alyssum Farm is a specialty cut flower farm on Vashon Island, WA established by Alyssa O'Cotter in 2019. The farm values quality, continuing to improve growing processes and crop offerings each season through research, experimentation and devotion to detail (plus quality control checks from the supervisor and farm dog, Ripley). Alyssa's farm experience comes from past seasons working on local vegetable farms. While learning sustainable agriculture from talented farmers, Alyssa found every opportunity to tuck flower crops in alongside the beautiful produce. Packing an abundance of varieties into a relatively small field space, Sweet Alyssum Farm always includes unique and creative flowers in their product list.
The farm name "sweet alyssum" comes from a flower grown by many farmers and gardeners as a pollinator plant, and it's also a play on Alyssa's first name.
Sweet Alyssum Farm is host to a small campground, bookable on Hipcamp, and the farm is also venue space for hosting special events.
Growing Practices
Sweet Alyssum Farm uses sustainable growing practices that benefit soil health and the local insect and wildlife populations. Weeding is done by hard-working hands and managed long term through low-till and mulching practices. The farm focuses on preventative pest management, keeping the soil healthy, crops well-fed, and maintaining habitat for the beneficial insect population all year long. Every morning our farm is loud with bird song, and these feathered neighbors control any unwanted beetle populations faster than the farmers can.
